The GTRP Foundation is proud to announce the upcoming regional training conference, “Empowering the Trans Rights Movement in the South Caucasus,” set to take place from May 3–6, 2025, in Armenia. This event aims to support and strengthen the local and regional trans movements by bringing together Trans and LGBIQ+ activists, organizations, and unregistered groups from Armenia and Georgia.
The main objective of the training is to build the capacity of Trans and LGBIQ+ activists and organizations in the South Caucasus. Through this conference, participants will have the opportunity to engage in educational sessions, workshops, and discussions on topics that are critical for the development of the trans rights movement in the region.
Key areas of focus during the training will include:
Self-Care and Wellness: Recognizing the importance of mental health and well-being, especially for those in activist spaces, a wellness trainer will guide participants on practices of self-care, an often overlooked aspect of sustainable activism.
Human Rights and Advocacy: Providing participants with an understanding of human rights frameworks, the tools for advocacy, and the strategies needed to effectively defend the rights of Trans and LGBIQ+ individuals.
Legal Literacy: Equipping activists with basic legal knowledge about the protections available to them and their communities, helping them navigate legal systems in their respective countries.
Defense Mechanisms: Training on how to protect oneself and the community from discrimination, violence, and other forms of harm.
The GTRP Foundation is dedicated to making this conference accessible to all selected participants. Travel, accommodation, and food expenses will be fully covered for those selected to participate. This ensures that financial constraints will not be a barrier to attendance, allowing activists from all walks of life to engage in this vital learning and networking experience.
